This simple 5-minute test helps you eliminate fire hazards!

Your dispenser's hanging hardware could be malfunctioning in a way as unnoticeable as dangerous. There is a simple test that can reveal the real condition of your hoses, fittings and nozzle. Make sure the dispenser is out of service prior to performing this test though.

Continuity tests confirm whether or not static electricity build-up is discharged from the hose. It is important that static electricity is discharged, because the static could spark and ignite gas fumes while the dispenser is in use.  Continuity Tests should not be performed if leaks or fuel dampness are evident during the proceeding steps of your routine maintenance.

The method of procedure is as follows:

  • The lead from a low voltage digital ohmmeter is connected to the cabinet of the dispensing unit
  • The other lead is attached to the tip of the spout
  • The lead contact's surfaces must be clean and free of fuel
  • Flex the hose and nozzle into various positions, similar to the positions encountered during fueling
  • If the results of the continuity test fail (any measurement higher than zero resistance in any of the lead's contact points) , check each fitting and connection individually to isolate the connection where continuity doesn't exist
  • It is advised to replace the component where continuity is lost as it is a potential fire hazard
